How accurate is the token estimate?+
It uses the widely accepted heuristic of roughly 4 characters per token for English text, refined with word-boundary counting. Real tokenizers differ slightly per model, so treat the number as a close estimate, typically within about 10 percent.
Why do tokens matter?+
AI providers bill by token, and every model has a context window measured in tokens. Knowing your prompt's size helps you control costs and stay within limits.
